I keep mentioning this to myself. There is no free lunch. For all the cash backs we are sharing an important piece of information .. us.. we are their data source. The expectation is that they would keep it anonymous. I am little scared about sharing my consumption information with apps . Now credit cards are a different basis. One point to keep in mind is understanding the business model of the cash back site before jumping on the bandwagon. Just my 2 cents.

@Dividendgeek: I agree that if you are using a cashback site, you should understand that they track your consumer habits and use it to inform the marketing strategies of their retailer partners. That being said, given all the private information that companies have access to these days (for example, social media companies like Facebook and even Google (e.g. Google maps), the reality is that ‘privacy’ in the strictest of terms is now overrated. Unless you do not use a credit card, phone apps, social media, etc., someone is definitely farming your private data.

      • Gravatar for dividendgeek

True that. But why provide another source of information leak. It’s not just privacy … its also data breach and loss of data. Too may apps floating around and their data storage is not well known or documented. I am not against these apps. I do use topcashback. But, just saying we should do DD to understand data storage (security controls) and how data is used i.e for $
