Stack Mastercard Shutting Down in Canada

Updated:

Fact Checked

After teetering on the edge for some time, the Stack Prepaid Mastercard is being shut down. As per the email sent to users, STACK will no longer operate in Canada as of September 11, 2023.

Learn about what’s happening and your prepaid card options below.

Stack Prepaid Mastercard is Being Discontinued

It is official. Stack will no longer be available to users as of September 11, 2023.

The last day to load funds was August 18, and you must use or withdraw any remaining balance by September 11.

If you have automatic bill payments or direct deposits set up, remember to update them before this date. The STACK card will no longer work for transactions after September 11, 2023.

Stack’s decline has been in the works for a while.

After it introduced monthly fees and made it harder to take advantage of its no-FX fee feature, I suspected that things were not working out.

While this prepaid Mastercard will be missed, Canadians have a few other options like the KOHO Mastercard, EQ Bank Card, and Neo Money Card to fall back on.

STACK is not the only prepaid card to get shut down recently. Mogo also closed its MogoCard program in June 2023.
