Savvy New Canadians Financial Literacy Scholarship Winners (Fall 2025)

Updated:

We are pleased to announce the winners of the fourth edition of the Savvy New Canadians Financial Literacy Scholarship.

Of the 759 applications received, Artem Drachevskyy and Maryann Chinomnso Nwosu were chosen for the Fall 2025 awards.

We are impressed by what they have achieved so far and wish them the best in their future endeavours!

Meet Artem Drachevskyy: SNC Scholar 2025

My name is Artem Drachevskyy, and Iโ€™m in my second year of Aerospace Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University. I moved independently from Alberta to Toronto to pursue my goals. I currently operate a small home services business and work as a private tutor.

To me, financial literacy is one of lifeโ€™s most essential skills. Money determines how big, safe, and free a life we can live, and financial literacy is what transforms money from something that controls you into something you control. For many, the concept of money brings stress, worry, and anxiety; for others, it brings gratitude, power, and freedom. Iโ€™ve chosen to be in the latter group by educating myself about finances early on so I can live life on my own terms.

After graduation, I plan to combine the knowledge from my degree with my entrepreneurial experience to build a career in the engineering and business space as an entrepreneur.

Maryann Chinomnso Nwosu: SNC Scholar 2025

My name is Maryann Chinomnso Nwosu, and I am a lawyer. I was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2021 and I am currently pursuingย my Master’s degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Winnipeg.

Financial literacy is not emphasized enough in society. To me, it is a necessary life skill that should be developed early in life… it provides security, identity and protects one from shame, especially when this skill is inculcated early in life. Upon graduation, I plan to continue my career as a lawyer and work towards my long-held ambition of becoming a judge, where I can contribute to dispensing justice to the marginalized and upholding the law.
