Best Canadian Tire Credit Cards in Canada for 2024

Updated:

Fact Checked

We Canadians love our retailer loyalty programs. Going to the same place a few times makes us feel like we’re getting rewarded for our purchases and loyalty to the brand.

One place that does this is Canadian Tire, the highest-volume retailer in Canada.

They’re a Canadian-based company that provides quality automotive, sports, and leisure products.

They also have various credit cards you can apply for and use at their retail stores or online.

These cards offer great rewards, special financing deals, and cashback rewards that you’ll love and find useful.

This post covers the best Canadian Tire credit cards to earn rewards in 2024.

Best Canadian Tire Credit Cards

What are the best Canadian Tire credit cards?

In this guide, we’ll help you find the answer by comparing all of the best Canadian Tire credit cards so you can decide which one is right for you.

Depending on your needs and lifestyle, some of them might be better than others.

We’ll start by looking at the essential benefits of each card and then dive into the details, including benefits, perks, interest rates, fees, rewards programs, and much more.

Canadian Tire Triangle Mastercard

The Canadian Tire Triangle Mastercard is one of the best Canadian Tire credit cards on the market.

It is relatively easy to apply for this card, and you don’t need a high income to qualify, unlike the Triangle World Elite Mastercard. Also, it has no annual fees.

As with other Canadian Tire credit cards, you get 4% Canadian Tire Money (CT Money) on qualifying purchases when you shop at Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, Mark’s/L’Équipeur, Atmosphere, Party City, Sports Rousseau, and other participating sport expert stores.

You can redeem your Canadian Time Money anytime at any store location and use that money to pay for all or a portion of your goods.

The Triangle Mastercard also earns you 5 cents per litre when you purchase gas at Husky or Gas+.

In addition, you can use your Triangle Mastercard to finance purchases at 0% interest in 24 equal monthly payments through the Canadian Tire Bank. To be eligible, your store purchases must be at least $150.

Suppose you decide to go with this card, consider downloading the Triangle App so you can receive personalized offers, use the app to scan your card in-store at Canadian Tire, and manage your Triangle Rewards account and your credit card account easily.

Canadian Tire Triangle World Elite Mastercard

The Canadian Tire Triangle World Elite Mastercard is a top credit card that offers even more great rewards, no annual fee, and no balance transfer fees.

It’s also one of the few cards that allow you to earn Canadian Tire Money as a reward.

Canadian Tire has a variety of credit cards, but the Triangle World Elite Mastercard is their most prized product.

This is because it offers 3% Canadian Tire money on grocery purchases (on the first $12,000 in annual spending, excluding Walmart and Costco).

You also get 4% Canadian Tire Money at Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, and other affiliated stores.

Other highlights include savings of 7 cents per litre in Canadian Tire money on premium fuel and 5 cents per litre on all different fuel types when you fuel up at Gas+ and participating Husky stations.

The card also comes with:

  • A roadside assistance gold plan: 24-hour roadside assistance across Canada and the U.S. offering towing, fuel delivery, flat tire change, and other emergency services.
  • Extended warranty insurance: Insurance protection in the event of loss, damage, or theft within 90 days of purchase
  • Personal 24/7 concierge services

Best Canadian Tire Credit Cards in Canada

Canadian Tire Cash Advantage Mastercard

The Canadian Tire Cash Advantage Mastercard is a credit card that offers a variety of rewards and benefits for Canadian Tire customers.

This Mastercard has no annual fee and lets you earn cashback rewards on all your purchases, which you can then redeem at any Canadian-owned retail location.

The Canadian Tire Cash Advantage Mastercard isn’t the most rewarding credit card in the market, but it may be worth your while because of these features:

  • Up to 1.5% cashback on eligible purchases
  • Up to 3% on purchases at Canadian Tire stores and other affiliated stores
  • No Interest financing when you spend $150 or more
  • No annual fees

The 3% cashback rate at Canadian Tire stores is quite good for a no-fee card.

That means you’ll get $6 for every $200 you spend at Canadian Tire and up to $3 at other stores.

Canadian Tire Gas Advantage Mastercard

The Canadian Tire Gas Advantage Mastercard is another no-fee credit card that allows you to save up to 10 cents per litre on gas at Canadian Tire gas bars.

This credit card makes it easy to save on gas when you use it at Canadian Tire gas bar locations located throughout Canada.

The more money you spend using your credit card for everyday purchases, the more points you get to save on fuel.

If you use your credit card at Canadian Tire or Mark’s stores, the amount you spend is worth 2x towards your next gas savings level.

This card also has no annual fees, and your rewards do not expire as long as you have an open account.

Plus, you can use your Canadian Tire money at Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, and other participating stores.

Canadian Tire Triangle Rewards Program

The Canadian Tire Triangle Rewards Program is one of Canada’s most popular loyalty programs.

The rewards program allows customers to earn points toward future purchases by shopping at Canadian Tire stores or using the company’s credit cards.

The program includes a host of different reward options and seasonal promotions.

The program allows you to earn points based on your purchases. You can then use these points for cash, merchandise, or other rewards you can redeem in-store or online.

Since the program’s launch, Canadian Tire has added many additional ways to earn points and redeem rewards.

When you make in-store purchases using one of the Canadian Tire credit cards, you earn Canadian Tire Money which you can use to make in-store purchases at Canadian Tire.

This will be automatically credited to your Triangle Rewards account within a few days of your purchase.

And suppose you’re not sure what to spend your Triangle Rewards on.

In that case, you can use them as Triangle Dollars towards future purchases at any participating Canadian Tire-affiliated stores like Sport Chek, Party City, Marks, and more. These are like gift cards that never expire.

The program is straightforward to enter and can help you save a lot of money on your purchases at Canadian Tire stores and their affiliated stores.

Pros and Cons of Canadian Tire Credit Cards

There are several Canadian Tire credit cards to choose from, but not all offer the same perks.

With the right card, you can take advantage of everything from cashback to gas savings.

Let’s take a closer look at the pros and cons of Canadian Tire credit cards to help you decide if it’s the right fit for you.

Pros

The Canadian Tire family of cards are issued by Canadian Tire Bank and consist of three major categories:

Credit Cards: These all-purpose cards can be used at Canadian Tire and their affiliated stores and come with different benefit packages depending on which card you choose.

The Canadian Tire Triangle Mastercard offers 4% Canadian Tire money on qualifying purchases and savings of up to 5 cents per litre when purchasing gas at Husky or Gas+.

The Canadian Tire Cash Advantage Mastercard offers the same CT Money earnings, except you get additional offers such as savings of 7 cents per litre on premium fuel and a roadside assistance gold plan.

Gas Advantage Mastercard: The Gas Advantage Mastercard lets you save up to 10 cents per litre on fuel purchased at any one of the 500+ gas bar locations.

Cash Advantage Mastercard: This is an all-purpose card that lets you earn 3% cashback in CT Money for every dollar spent at Canadian Tire or Sport Chek and 1.5% cashback in CT Money for every dollar spent at Mark’s, Triangle Rewards partners, and Canadian Tire Gas+ locations.

Cons

The biggest downside of Canadian Tire credit cards is that most rewards are only worth it if you frequently shop at their store and its affiliates.

The Gas Advantage Mastercard, for example, offers excellent perks for gas purchases and all other purchases respectively; however, if you’re no longer a frequent customer of these stores and decide to cancel your account, it may be difficult to redeem your rewards (as with many other store credit cards).

The cards’ interest rates can also be relatively high for those who carry a balance.

The regular APR is 24.99%, but there’s the option to sign up for a special promotional rate if you are approved for the cards.

One other disadvantage is that the cards have a low point value for purchases outside Canadian Tire and groceries.

You only earn 0.5% back in Canadian Tire Money on these other purchases, which means you need to spend $100 to get $0.50 in rewards.

Also, grocery purchases in Costco and Walmart do not qualify for the 3% cash back rate when using the Triangle World Elite card.
