Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard Review (2023)

The Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard is offered in conjunction with MBNA. If you are a regular shopper at Amazon.ca or Whole Foods, the cash back earns rate is acceptable, especially if you have Amazon Prime Membership.

Outside of these locations, you also earn cash back on your purchases and can redeem your points for Amazon gift cards.

This Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard review covers how it works, its pros and cons, and alternative cash back credit cards in Canada.

Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard Benefits

The top benefits of the MBNA Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard include:

Earn cash back: You get 2.5% back on eligible purchases at Amazon.ca and Whole Foods Market stores in Canada if you are a Prime member.

Non-Prime cardholders earn 1.5% cash back at these locations. On purchases made elsewhere, the standard earn rate for all users is 1%.

Waive FX Fees: Amazon Prime members get 2.5% back on foreign currency transactions to help them cover foreign transaction fees. Non-Prime members get 1% back on transactions involving foreign currency conversions.

Insurance coverage: This card offers standard purchase security and extended warranty benefit coverage.

Save on car rental: Cardholders can save up to 10% on car rental fees at participating Avis and Budget locations.

Welcome offer: The Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard offers a 5% cashback welcome bonus on up to $3,000 spent at Amazon.ca and Whole Foods in the first six months.

How To Redeem Amazon Rewards Points

When your rewards reach 2,000 points, they are automatically redeemed for a $20 Amazon gift card and added to your account.

The points do not expire as long as your account remains open and in good standing.

The main downside of this card is that you are limited to spending rewards earned at Amazon.ca.

Also, if you don’t have a Prime membership, which costs $9.99 per month, you don’t benefit from the 2.50% cash back rates at Amazon.ca and Whole Foods.
