Fact Checked

In today’s digital age, keeping your online information secure is very important. With so many online accounts, it is challenging to create and remember secure passwords for each one.

As someone who spends a lot of time online, I’m always worried about keeping my accounts secure. That’s why I decided to try out 1Password, a popular password manager that promises to make managing my passwords easier and more secure.

After using it for a few months, here is my review of 1Password for 2024. This article also determines if it is legit and worth it.

Key Takeaways

  • In my personal experience, 1Password has been a game-changer when it comes to managing my online accounts securely.
  • The features are easy to use, and the strong encryption gives me peace of mind. Although there are some downsides, I believe that the security benefits outweigh these.
  • Overall, 1Password can be a great tool for anyone looking for a secure and reliable password manager.

What is 1Password?

1Password is a password manager that helps you keep your online accounts secure. It stores all your passwords in an encrypted vault and auto-fills them for you when you visit a website or app.

It was developed by AgileBits Inc. and first launched in 2006. Since then, 1Password has become one of the most popular password managers on the market, with millions of users worldwide.

1Password also offers additional features like secure notes, credit card storage, and two-factor authentication.

How Does 1Password Work?

1Password works by creating a secure vault where all your passwords and other sensitive information are stored. The vault is encrypted with a master password, which only you know.

This means that even if someone were to gain access to your device, they would not be able to access your passwords without your master password.

You can also use other 1Password login options, such as biometric authentication like fingerprint or facial recognition, to unlock your vault. 1Password will autofill your login credentials for you when you visit a website or app.

1Password also offers browser extensions, such as the 1Password Chrome extension.  This allows you to easily log in to your accounts without having to enter your username and password manually.

Additionally, the 1Password Chrome extension can generate strong, unique passwords for each account. It makes it easier to maintain strong password security.

1Password Pricing

1Password offers several pricing plans to choose from. There is a free trial and a variety of subscription plans.

The pricing is based on the number of users and devices you want to use the service on. For personal use, 1Password costs $3.75 per month for one user and unlimited devices. For families, 1Password costs $5.99 per month for up to five users and unlimited devices. For businesses, 1Password offers a variety of plans starting at $9.99 per user per month.

Though I went only with the individual plan, I find the 1Password pricing a little steep compared to some of the other password managers out there. However, it may be worth it for the security features it gives.

1Password Features

1Password offers a range of features, including:

  • Secure password storage: All your passwords and sensitive information are stored in an encrypted vault, which can only be accessed with your master password.
  • Auto-fill and auto-login: The browser extension automatically fills in your login information when you visit a website, making it easier to access your accounts.
  • Password generation: 1Password can generate strong, unique passwords for each account, making it easier to maintain strong password security.
  • Cross-device syncing: 1Password syncs your passwords and other information across all your devices, so you can access them from anywhere.
  • Secure notes: You can store sensitive information such as credit card details and secure notes in your 1Password vault.
  • Travel mode: 1Password removes sensitive information from your devices when travelling.
  • Watchtower: It alerts you to compromised websites and accounts
  • Dark Web Monitoring: 1Password checks to see if your important information has been leaked in any known data breaches. If it has, it will tell you right away and ask you to change the password, account, or login that was affected.

I love the features that 1Password offers. The strong password generator has been a lifesaver for me, as I no longer have to come up with complicated passwords on my own. I also appreciate the Watchtower, Travel mode,  and the autofill feature.

It’s so much easier to log in to my accounts now that I don’t have to remember all my passwords. What’s even better is that all my information is secured.

Is 1Password Safe and Legit?

I was a little worried about the safety of my data when I first signed up for 1Password, but after doing some research, I feel confident that it’s safe and legit. 1Password uses strong encryption to protect your data, and they have a good track record when it comes to security.

1Password is widely regarded as one of the safest and most secure password managers on the market. The service uses state-of-the-art encryption to ensure that your data is safe from hackers and other cyber threats.

Additionally, 1Password undergoes regular security audits to ensure that it is up to date with the latest security standards.

Pros of 1Password

Based on my personal experience, using 1password has various advantages, such as the following:

  • The strong encryption and security features give me peace of mind.
  • The user interface is easy to use and navigate.
  • The cross-platform support means that I can access my passwords from any device.
  • The multiple pricing plans make it easy to find one that fits my needs.
  • The auto-fill and auto-login fill in my login information when I visit a website, making it easier to access my accounts.

Downsides of 1Password

Like any other password manager, 1Password has its downsides:

  • Cost: 1Password can be more expensive than some of its competitors.
  • Limited free version: While 1Password does offer a free trial, the free version is limited in terms of features and functionality.
  • Browser compatibility: Some users have reported compatibility issues with certain browsers, particularly Safari.

1Password Alternatives

If you’re not sold on 1Password, there are several alternatives to choose from. I’ve tried out a few of them, including Bitwarden, LastPass, and Dashlane.

1Password vs Bitwarden

Bitwarden is a good alternative if you’re looking for a free password manager. It is an open-source password manager that offers similar features to 1Password.

While 1Password is more user-friendly and has better customer support, Bitwarden is a great choice for those on a budget. Bitwarden’s pricing starts at $13.73 per year or is only a bit higher than $1 per month.

1Password vs Dashlane

Dashlane is a password manager that offers a range of features, including a VPN and dark web monitoring. It offers more features and is a good choice for those who want a more comprehensive security solution.

1Password vs LastPass

LastPass is similar to 1Password in terms of features, but it doesn’t have a travel mode. While LastPass is cheaper, 1Password is sometimes considered to be more secure and user-friendly.

LastPass offers a free subscription with limited features. Its premium subscription starts at $3 per month, including a 30-day free trial.
